A Seasonal Cleaning Checklist for Madison Offices
A workplace that stays clean through winter and the seasons after it takes a plan more than it takes effort.

Anyone who manages an office in Madison knows how a place can change in a few weeks. The lobby carpet looks fine in October and gray by January. Spring brings pollen and open windows, summer brings sandals and spills, and fall brings leaves on every shoe. A cleaning plan that never changes with the seasons ends up chasing the same problems. Here's a way to think about it, along with a standard checklist you can hold your provider to.
Winter: protect the entry
Winter is hardest on floors. Road salt and slush get carried in on every pair of boots, and once salt dries on carpet it leaves a pale crust that wears down the fibers. Hard floors turn slick and streaky. Mats at every entrance help more than anything else, and they need to be vacuumed or swapped often. Plan for extra attention to entry floors, stair treads and the first few feet of hallway, since that's where the mess concentrates.
Cold season also means more shared germs. Door handles, elevator buttons, light switches and shared phones deserve a firm routine, not an occasional wipe.
The standard office checklist
Whatever the season, a reliable office clean covers the same core tasks every time. If your current provider skips any of these, ask why.
- Floors: vacuum carpets, and sweep and mop hard surfaces
- Dusting: desks where cleared, shelves, window sills, ledges and partitions
- Restrooms: sinks, toilets, mirrors and floors cleaned and restocked
- Trash: bins emptied and liners replaced
- High-touch surfaces: door handles, switches, railings and shared equipment
- Kitchen and breakroom: counters, sinks, appliance exteriors and tables
- Interior glass and partitions: smudges and fingerprints removed
Restrooms deserve a note of their own. They're the room visitors judge you by, and the one employees notice first when it slips. Supplies should be restocked every visit, and the floors around the base of the toilets and under the sinks should be washed, not just swept. Ask your provider how they handle disinfecting, and what they use near food areas such as the breakroom.
Spring and summer: dust, pollen and open windows
When the weather warms up, the dirt changes character. Pollen settles on sills and ledges, and open windows let fine dust in. This is a good time to ask for attention to the places that don't make a weekly list: vents, blinds, baseboards and the corners of the breakroom. Entry mats can come out of heavy rotation, but the glass at the front door will need more frequent attention as sunlight shows every fingerprint.
Fall: reset before the slush returns
Late fall is the best moment for a deeper pass before winter arrives. Clean the corners and edges of the floors while they're still in good shape, and put the winter mats out before the first snow instead of after. A deeper clean now also gives you a clean baseline to compare the next few months against.
Scheduling around your people
The best cleaning is the kind your team barely notices. Many offices schedule before or after business hours, so nobody works around a vacuum. Others choose weekends, or overnight service for places that run around the clock. Think about when your restrooms and breakroom get the heaviest use, and have the visit land right after, not right before.
Frequency depends on the building. A small office might do well with a weekly or biweekly visit, while a busy suite with a lot of foot traffic may need several each week. Daily, weekly, biweekly and monthly schedules all work, and it's fine to change the schedule as the seasons change.
Keys, trust and starting with a trial clean
Offices are often cleaned when nobody is there, which means someone else holds the key. Ask any provider how keys are stored and who handles them. At Touch of Europe, keys are marked with an ID code rather than your business name or address, and they're kept locked in a safe that only top management can open. The team that cleans your office is trained for 100 hours before going into the field, and the same people return wherever possible, so your staff aren't meeting a new face each week.
If you're thinking about switching providers, we suggest starting with a trial clean. There's no long-term contract, so you can see the work, meet the team and decide with real results in front of you. We're locally owned, bonded and insured, our staff are background-checked, and workers' compensation covers every employee. We never subcontract, so the people who show up are the people we trained.
