Weekly, Biweekly or Monthly: Picking the Cleaning Schedule That Fits Your Home

Most people who call about recurring cleaning already know they want help. What they haven't settled is how often. Book too rarely and every visit turns into a rescue mission. Book too often and you're paying to clean a house that was still clean. The right schedule has less to do with square footage than with how many people, pets and muddy boots move through the place in a week. Here's how we think it through, based on the homes we clean around Madison and Dane County.

Weekly: for homes that never get a quiet week

Weekly visits suit families with kids or pets, busy professionals who are rarely home to pick up, and any high-traffic house. If someone cooks every night, the dog sheds year-round, and four people use the bathrooms before eight in the morning, a week is about as long as the place can go before it starts to feel behind.

Weekly also keeps the work light. Kitchen counters, bathroom fixtures and floors never get the chance to build up a film, so each visit is mostly maintenance instead of recovery. For a lot of households, the biggest change isn't the shine. It's losing the Saturday scramble before company comes over, because the house is already in decent shape on any given day.

Biweekly: the schedule most customers choose

Every other week is our most popular recurring schedule, and it's easy to see why. It's frequent enough that nothing gets truly bad, and it spreads the cost of cleaning out in a way that fits a normal household routine. Two weeks is also about how long it takes a bathroom to go from fresh to clearly used, and for dust on a bookshelf to become something you'd notice in good light.

Biweekly works well for two-income households, a couple with a dog, or a family whose kids are past the spill-everything stage. You handle the daily upkeep, like dishes, laundry and a quick sweep. The team handles the work that eats a Saturday: bathrooms, floors, kitchen surfaces, dusting. If you're torn between weekly and biweekly, start with biweekly and move up if the second week's mess bothers you. Adding visits later is easier than wishing you hadn't paid for ones you didn't need.

Monthly: for smaller or tidier households

Monthly visits fit smaller homes, couples, and anyone who already tidies regularly and wants a reset instead of a routine. Think of it as the heavy lift you keep putting off: the baseboards, the shower doors, the stovetop that never gets its full scrub during a normal week.

There's a trade-off to be straight about. A month is long enough for buildup to come back, especially around kitchen sinks and bathroom tile, so a monthly visit does more catching up than a weekly one. That's fine if you expect it. It's frustrating if you assumed monthly would feel like weekly. Pets, allergies, or a houseful of guests are all good reasons to tighten the schedule.

What the first visit looks like

Whichever schedule you pick, the first recurring visit is a deep clean, and it typically runs two to four times as long as a routine visit. That surprises people the first time. It shouldn't. The team is setting the baseline, bringing baseboards, vents, fans and fixtures up to a point where the shorter visits that follow can maintain them instead of fighting them.

After that, visits settle into a rhythm. Your preferences, priority rooms, pet details and entry instructions are kept on file, so you aren't repeating yourself. We send a team of two, and wherever possible it's the same two people each time. They learn your house: which cabinet fronts collect grease, which room matters most to you, where the dog likes to sleep.

A few questions to settle it

  • How many people and pets live here? A full house or a shedding dog leans weekly.
  • How quickly does the bathroom bother you? If it's day four, choose weekly. If it's day twelve, biweekly is probably right.
  • Do you already tidy every day? If so, monthly may be all you need.
  • Is anything coming up, like guests, a new baby or a stretch of long work weeks? You can tighten the schedule for a season and loosen it later.

Changing your mind is allowed

There's no contract, so you aren't locked into your first answer. If a schedule isn't working, tell us and we'll adjust it. If you need to skip or reschedule a visit, email at least 48 hours ahead so the team can plan their day. Adjusting after the first few visits is normal, and nobody on our end will make it awkward.

If you can't decide, call us at (608) 886-4535 or request a free estimate, and we'll talk through your house and pick a starting schedule together.
